The 2nd Annual Latino Professional JA Community Day
The Latino Professional JA Community Day begins as an in-classroom volunteer effort at an elementary school in Newark in a ‘JA Day’ setting followed by a bowling fundraiser. Volunteers are encouraged to do both activities, although it is not required. The JA Day gives volunteers the unique opportunity to teach Junior Achievement’s (JA’s) financial literacy and workforce readiness curriculum to youth. JA’s activity-based programs are taught over the course of one school day (from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) by teams of two.

To support the JA community day a bowling party fundraiser will be held from 3:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m at Jersey Lanes. Individuals are asked to raise just $100 and will bowl with a team of six for a fun social experience. Pizza, refreshments and bowling are complimentary to those that meet their individual goal!

The number of Hispanic students in the nation's public schools nearly doubled from 1990 to 2006, accounting for 60% of the total growth in public school enrollments and is growing.

This initiative will:

• Increase the number of Hispanic volunteer role-models participating in JA programs, which in turn will increase the impact of like youth.
• Heighten awareness about the need fore more Latino role models.
• Empower students to achieve educational and professional success.
• Educate students of career opportunities
